FAQs

 What is JEE Main exam?

JEE Main is a nationwide entrance test in India, organized by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It is a prerequisite for admission into undergraduate engineering programs like B.Tech and B.E. in institutions such as NITs and IIITs. Additionally, it serves as the eligibility exam for students aiming to qualify for JEE Advanced to get into IITs.

The JEE Main 2025 exam is likely to take place in two phases: one in January and another in April. Session 1 is on 22 Jan ’25 – 31 Jan ’25 & Session 2 is on 01 Apr ’25 – 08 Apr ’25.

The level of difficulty for JEE Main depends largely on how well-prepared students are. Historically, the exam is designed to test fundamental concepts and problem-solving ability, which some may find challenging. However, the perception of difficulty varies among candidates.

The JEE Main exam is held at various test centers spread across cities in India, along with a few international locations. Applicants can choose their preferred test centers while completing the application process.

The percentile score in JEE Main is derived by normalizing marks to account for differences in difficulty levels across multiple exam shifts. It represents the percentage of candidates who scored below a particular individual in their respective session.

A candidate’s JEE Main rank is determined based on their highest percentile score if they appear in multiple sessions. Ranks are finalized after combining results from all sessions and applying the normalization process.

JEE Main Paper 2 is specifically for students interested in architecture (B.Arch) or planning (B.Planning) courses. It tests skills in mathematics, aptitude related to architecture, and either drawing or planning, depending on the specific program.

The difficulty of JEE Main shifts can vary each year. After the exam, experts and students often assess which session posed greater challenges, though this is subjective and can differ from one person to another.

JEE Main is a vital step for students who wish to pursue engineering or technical studies in India. It is the gateway to prestigious institutions like NITs and IIITs and is also the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced, required for admission into IITs.

For the 2024 cycle, JEE Main is scheduled in two sessions. The first session runs from January 24 to February 1, 2024, and the second session is planned for April 1 to April 15, 2024, as per the schedule released by NTA.
